Penholders that can spin together due to being helical and being gears. Not an original idea, I saw this somewhere on the internet and wanted to make one. Made in Fusion 360. Requires one 608 bearing per barrel for smooth rotation.

NEW Two choices of base:
1) round double base for a basic 2-gear holder (pictured)
2) jigsaw base for unlimited number of gears in any tiled configuration!

Print instructions

  • Print all objects right side up. (rgear was rendered upside-down)
lgears can only mesh with rgears and vice versa. So remember to print both and alternate them in a checkerboard pattern when assembling!
  • lgear and rgear are just mirror images of each other.
  • No supports necessary
  • If the 608 bearing fitment is too tight on your print, shave or file off the z-scar.
  • You do need a well-tuned extrusion multiplier for the interlocking parts to fit well, so do calibration cubes if you run into problems. The jigsaw pieces have clearance of only 0.1mm so they should be tight and hold rigid against each other.
  • The model is compensated for elephant's foot, so turn elephant foot compensation off.
