Printable tree topper for mega trees

You will need:

  • 1 x 3D Printer with a 300x300mm build plate
  • 4 x M4X6X6 Threaded Inserts (Tho you could drill the holes all the way through and use 4 bolts
  • 4 x M4 Bolts of sufficient length to mount
  • 8 x zip ties, or 8 x m3/m2 nuts and bolts
  • 150 x 12mm LED pixel nodes
  • Optionally: CA Glue

Important Note: Flip the core and the points so the flat face is on the build plate unless your printer is mad good at bridging.

Print:

  • 1 Core
  • 5 Points

The points should twist fairly easily into the core. Basically line up a point across the joint in the core diagonally and push both corners at the same time.

Either use zip ties or small bolts and nuts to affix the point to the core through the two small holes.

Optionally run a bead of thin CA glue along the joint, this makes it a permanent build and not one you can disassemble later.

Melt the 4 x M4 inserts into the desired holes, I've included 75mm vesa mounting, and 50mm mounting (cos who wants to print out a 75mm bracket?!)

Either design your own mounting system or use mine (or use it for inspiration) If you're using mine you'll also need 3 equal lengths of 20MM electrical conduit - why 3? well one didn't feel strong enough (probably is but eh) 2 would only support 2 axis. The bolt pattern on the bottom plate is for an 3.8 meter tall gorilla formwork jack.

I've included an XLights model.
