The Aspis first appeared in dungeon module A1, "Slave Pits of the Undercity." It is notable that its entire life cycle was encountered in the adventure, from the larval grubs to the adult drones (modeled here) to the gigantic egg-laying "cow". The drones are formidable warriors, able to dual wield while simultaneously protecting themselves with two shields. It rocks to have 6 limbs, I guess.
