Gears are cool!
I'd seen a few axis visualisers and such like in the shape of “gears”, but most of them were artists impressions of gears (rectangles or trapeziums stuck on the outside of a circle) rather than proper involute (or cycloidal) form gears and that sort of thing irritates me, so I thought I'd design my own.
I've made a set to include a control knob and visualisers for X, E and Z axes. All are module 2 gears. You can see them all in the last photo. This is the X-axis visualiser and has 18 teeth (matching the E-axis visualiser and larger control knob). It has some “teeth” on the back that engage with the pulley and hold it in place. I've included a magnetically mounted version in case you'd prefer that (it still has the teeth on the back for alignment), but the friction fit one seems better to me.
