Seedling Cage (25 minute print)

My seedlings were constantly being eaten.  I tried covering them with cloches made from plastic bottle cutout.  But, whenever there is a warm sunny day, the seedling would get cooked and die.  I have created this Seedling Cage in hope that it will protect seedlings from being eaten.  It's also quick to print these cages and can be stacked together for storage.

Assembly Instruction

The cages shown were printed in ABS.  As the ABS cools, it shrinks and makes it easier to remove the print from the bed.  If you use other material, you'll need to be more careful removing the print.

To assemble the cage, insert the thick pointy end of the tab in the hole then push the rest of the tab through.  I was able to assemble the first few cage without the aid of any tools.  Then I found the filament tip cut off from filament change to be the perfect tool to guide the tab.  If you have some small tweezers, you can use it to grab the tab and push it through the hole.

If the print is falling apart easily, you may need to recalibrate the first layer or print the model in double layers.  All my cages were printed with single 0.2mm layer and it was sufficient for me.

To increase the thickness of the cage.  Scale the model height to 150%, then change the print settings to 0.1mm layer.  This will print the first layer in 0.2mm and the second layer in 0.1mm.
